Leslie Calvin Brown also known as Les Brown was born in 1945. He was a former politician, a radio DJ, an author and most famously known for his motivational speaking seminars.
Brown started in poverty and he was adopted. When he was young, he has been labeled as ‘educable mentally retarded’. Despite the low self-esteem and confidence, he managed to make it and join the radio station and became a DJ through sheer persistence. After he left his job as a DJ, he went on to run for election in the Ohio House of Representatives and won.
After that, Brown decided to get into television and ended up with PBS, which eventually led him to become a famous motivational speaker. In 1993, he launched his own TV show called The Les Brown Show. However, it did not turn out well and Brown later started his own company named Les Brown Unlimited and focused on giving motivational seminars. He then wrote a book called Live Your Dreams and the book became an instant success. By 1998, his company grew and became successful in the motivational industry, earning him $4.5 million annually through his television appearances, motivational programs and training of public speakers.
Today, Les Brown is a famous motivational speaker that delivers his speeches across the world including countries like Canada, Denmark, and Dubai. Throughout his career, he has also won numerous awards such as the Council Peers Award of Excellence’ of CPAE at the National Speakers Association, the Golden Gavel Award and was also listed as the Top Five Outstanding Speakers by Toastmaster International.
In 1996, Brown published his second book, It’s Not Over Until You Win that quickly became a bestseller. Besides that, his audio program series, Choosing Your Future was also well-received and was distributed worldwide. Brown has achieved celebrity status in motivational speaking and also worked closely with John C. Maxwell.
