Despite having a tough and challenging childhood, Louise L. Hay, the author of You Can Heal Your Life, managed to make it big in life. In the 1950s, Hay moved to New York and started her career as a fashion model and she managed to build some success in the industry by working for big names such as Bill Blass, Oleg Cassini, and Pauline, Trigere.
Hay showed an intense passion for religious science practice and she studied Transcendental Meditation with the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi at the Maharishi International University in Fairfield, Iowa.
And in 1977, Hay was diagnosed with cervical cancer. She stated that she refused to go with the conventional medical treatment, and began a regime of forgiveness, nutrition, reflexology, and colonic enemas. Hay reported that she got rid of her cancer this way.
And in 1976, Hay wrote her first book, Heal Your Body. It was just a small pamphlet consisted of different bodily ailments and metaphysical causes. The book was enlarged and extended into a real book, You Can Heal Your Life, which was published in 1984. And by 2008, the book was second on the New York Times best-sellers list.
In the same time, Hay also created support groups to help AIDS patients and her group grew into hundreds of people. She was then invited to the Oprah Winfrey Show and Donahue in 1988. Her book, You Can Heal Your Life was translated into more than 30 languages and has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide. Her book has also made it to the ‘50 Self-Help Classics’.
