Born in 1947 in Rio De Janeiro, Paulo Coelho has written numerous outstanding books that have won him awards and being a famous writer. One of his bestselling novels, The Alchemist, was sold more than 83 million copies worldwide, becoming one of the best-selling books in history. The Alchemist was also been translated into 81 different languages and thus, won the Guinness World Record for the most translated book by a living author.
Paulo’s book has certainly created an impact and inspired many around the world. The Hollywood celebrity Will Smith, Madonna, Pharrell Williams, and even the ex-president of the United States, Bill Clinton stated in the public that The Alchemist inspired them.
In total, Paulo has published 30 books, has sold 210 million copies of them in over 170 countries across the world. In December 2016, Paulo Coelho was ranked #2 in the 200 Most Influential Authors in the World by Richtopia, a UK-based company.
In the year 1999, Paulo was presented with the World Economic Forum Crystal Award. And Georgi Parvanov, the ex-president of Bulgaria also presented him “The Honorable Award of the President of the Republic” in 2006. Paulo has also got a role in the Unesco, serving as a special counselor for “Intercultural Dialogues and Spiritual Convergences”.
Paulo also started his foundation in 1996 called Paulo Coelho Institute to help children and elderly people who are in need. Apart from that, he also uploaded about 80,000 photos, documents, diaries, manuscripts, letters, and press-clippings to create a virtual Paulo Coelho Foundation.
Paulo Coelho still writes regularly and he made it a point to write at least a novel every two years. The life story of Paulo Coelho has also been made into a film, with the international title, The Pilgrim – the Best Story of Paulo Coelho. The movie was first premiered in Brazilian Theaters in 2014 with the title “Não Pare na Pista”, and was then distributed internationally by Picture Tree.
