Subroto Bagchi, born in 1957, was an Indian entrepreneur, a business leader and also an author who has written and published numerous business books. He is the co-founder of Mindtree, a global IT service company valued at $500 million and with more than 16,000 employees.
Subroto grew up in Odisha and studied Political Science at the Utkal University. In 1974, Subroto underwent the training with the army and successfully made 5 jumps and was awarded the Prime Minister’s Cane Honor.
After giving up his post graduate study, Subroto worked as a clerk in the Industries Department of the Government of Odisha in 1976. He entered the computer industry and ended up working with Wipro and became a chief executive there. And in 1999, Subroto co-found Mindtree with 9 other partners. The company started strong and has been listed on the National Stock Exchange and the Bombay Stock Exchange in India. In the beginning, Subroto was the company’s chief operating officer.
When the 9/11 event happened, Subroto moved to the United States to help and support the leadership team stays together through the challenging years. In 2007, he was part of the apex team that led Mindtree from the early stage to IPO. In 2010, Subroto was appointed as the vice-chairman and a chairman in 2012. Subroto loves to write and he published his first book, High-Performance Entrepreneur in 2006. He was ranked as the most influential business person in India by Business Today magazine.
Subroto has since written and published many books including The High-Performance Entrepreneur, The Professional, The Elephant Catchers On Leadership and Innovation, and his story, Go Kiss the World. He has sold more than 150,000 of his books. He is also a member of the board of White Swan Foundation for Mental Health, which is a non-profit organization that aimed to help those suffer from mental illness.
